How I was sued for being on a school board. David protected my assets and closed a real estate deal on December 31st
My three kids went to a private school. The school got into a lot of financial trouble. I was asked to join the board assuming that I would not have any financial responsibilities. I thought that I would just help get the school back on its feet and organized. But I couldn’t.
Things didn’t go well. I was sued because the school didn’t have the funds to pay the teachers. My personal assets were under risk. There was an attorney the school hired, but he did not do a good job and ended up just pissing everybody off. More teachers were not paid. The school went bankrupt, they were unable to pay rent and salaries. We tried really hard to make ends meet, but, unfortunately, the school had to close. Everybody was so angry. The teachers should have been paid. But there was no money.
I hired David to help me out. He was able to help us all reach an amicable agreement. He came up with a solution for me personally and the school. He was amazing, calm, and smart.
We had to look for another school and move to New Jersey! So of course David was our lawyer for the real estate deal.
He made sure that I and the co-signer, who was my mother, were protected. When family members are co-signers, the situation can be tricky. The goal was to protect her assets, she was retiring, and my mom inherited a business (taxi medallions) in New York from my father when he passed away. The business was in trouble, and there were problems with the bank so we had to make sure the bank is not getting the money from the real estate deal.
David established a trust in the state of New York for our family. He was literally able to turn around the entire situation for the family. There was nothing there, and less than two days later we had a trust.
There were additional difficulties when we were selling the New York apartment and buying the New Jersey home. Part of the down payment for the new house was the money we had to make selling the old apartment. We had some issues with the mortgage and the broker. The deal was tricky even time-wise, we literally closed the deal on December 31st! David was there for us on New Years’ Eve!
Usually, lawyers do not care. David is different. He was such a super star. He never rushed us, he spent hours explaining everything. David gave us multiple options, talked about all the pros and cons. He went above and beyond.
We moved into our new home in West Orange NJ and we love it. The community is warm and friendly. The schools are great. Of course I am not ever getting on school boards!
David is our go-to guy for all legal issues and we are so happy to have bought the house pre-COVID. We made tons of money selling the apartment in New York and moving to a house in New Jersey before everybody else did it!
